Great things have been happening at my work place. I am producing, well, short of doing the budget (which is typically a big part), I am producing a project for the office. It deals with a process called Indexing. Its a task oriented to digitizing governmental records into a searchable form for people to be able to do genealogical research. Anyway, I flew with a small crew to Sacramento to film for two days and am now in the editing stages of the project. Great project that could have a large affect on its target audience.
Besides this, for me personally it means that I'm getting to do more of what I had originally hoped when I first got hooked up with this gig. That's great news.
I've been working there for the past nine months. Doesn't seem that long. My plan is to work there another six at least. Unless something rather remarkable happens, (hiring) it will only be for six, then it will likely be back to CA for me. At least that's my natural inclination. If I don't have a job in UT, I have zero desire to remain in the state.
But I won't jump to conclusions. A lot can happen in six months.

You could be married in six months! Grin.

HA. Not likely. But I have learned from experience that to say something won't happen is a clear invitation to a higher power to heap such unlikelihoods upon oneself.
ReplyDeleteSadness Ben. We love having you local. It would be sad to loose you to my home state.
ReplyDeleteYou know you're a california convert when you hear someone in the airport mention ontario, and your heart leaps and wishes to hop on that plane. it's been good to be near you guys, but the irony is that I know you wanna get out of here too, just not go south... sigh. That day'll come.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see Ben. Utah has grown on us (not the one-minded religious culture) but other aspects. And the more we visit other places the more we realize (for us) that a place is just a place and it doesn't matter where we live.
ReplyDeleteWould I like to go elsewhere? It depends on the day. Mostly I would prefer financial security and enough money to take the family traveling every other year to experience other people and cultures.
Perhaps Utah is more survivable because I have Jason. But regardless, I don't miss California anymore (not like I used to for the first 4 years). My sister is going through the same thing. She hates Utah and loves California. But that will change. It always does if you let it. I think I could settle anywhere (accept the south) and find happiness and contention - if I wanted (and I always do).
That's interesting to me. I wonder why I am the way I am. You'd think I'd be more like you in this regard. I get the security. For once I have it. And having a spouse and kids would change a lot too I expect. Or would it? Time will tell...
